In the mid 90s Peter Henkemans observed the rapid extinction
process of coral reefs near the coast of Venezuela. From then
on he started experimenting with sea water aquariums, intending
to breed corals at a large scale in order to use them for
reef restoration.
At first in Latin-America, later on in The
Netherlands, experimenting went on.
In the course of the following
years, he developed a technology which he named Dymico (patented:
Australia 2002236358, Europe 1365644, USA US 6,830,681 B2).
At that time Robbert Dokter got involved and a Dutch company
was founded: EcoDeco B.V.
Today we look back at having built tens of Dymico systems, from 500 up to 600.000 liters. You can find them in Zoo’s, research institutions, aquaculture and even at peoples homes.
